Cayman Trainee Placement Scheme

The Scheme

The Chancery Bar Association in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association have concluded a Framework Agreement, which introduces a scheme for the placement of articled clerks from legal firms in Cayman with sets of Chambers in England which have members of the ChBA (the “Cayman Trainee Placement Scheme” or “CTPS”).  The framework agreement was formally signed during the visit of the ChBA to Grand Cayman in May 2014.

The CTPS has been designed for the mutual benefit of Caymanian firms (and their trainees) and our members.  The trainees can expect to gain experience in Chancery and commercial cases which will normally count towards their qualification in Cayman.  From Chambers’ perspective, we hope that the CTPS will present an opportunity to deepen or establish relationships with Caymanian firms and with possible future clients.
There has been a break in the running of the scheme over the past few years, but it will be up and running again this year with a proposed timetable as outlined below.
  • The detailed framework agreement is available above.
