The next Recorder Competition is expected to launch in February 2017.  There will be 100 vacancies across the Crime and Family Jurisdictions.  To this end we have invited Lord Justice Burnett, the Vice-Chair (Judicial) of the JAC, to speak to us in order to (i) outline the JAC’s changes in approach to selection in relation to the next Recorder Competition, and to explain why members of the ChBA should bother applying, and (ii) to answer questions from members.  The JAC is very well aware that members of the ChBA felt let down by the 2011 and 2015 Recorder selection exercise.  The JAC also know that it is doubtful our members will apply in the 2017 Recorder Competition unless they are persuaded there has been real change in the selection process to make it worth their while.  The JAC are listening to the ChBA, and we are working with them to secure change so that our members who wish to be Recorders, have a fair opportunity to apply.  We invited Burnett LJ to speak to us at the start of term so that anyone interested in applying has time to plan and prepare for the 2017 Competition.  If you have any interest in applying to be a Recorder whether in 2017 or at a future date, then please do come along.  This event is open to members of COMBAR and TECBAR, and other civil SBAs - please email Francesca if not a ChBA member, and she will put you on the list,

Followed by a reception.
