The Opening of the Central London Civil Justice Centre

The Central London Civil Justice Centre in the Thomas More Building was formally opened on Thursday afternoon, 22 May, by the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd.

It now houses the former Central London County Court and will operate for listing purposes in association with the Mayor’s and City of London Court.  Central London will continue to operate a Chancery List and take cases transferred from the High Court as well as hearing cases from the County Court.  The two Senior Chancery Judges are Judge Dight and Judge Walden-Smith.

At the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Chancery Bar Association addressed the Court on behalf of the Bar and his speech can be read here.  At a reception following the opening, Judge Dight addressed the company and his speech can be read here. Pending the setting up of a Users’ Committee, anyone with any constructive comments or criticisms of the operation of the Civil Justice Centre can send them to admin@chba.org.uk and they will be collated and provided to Judge Dight for consideration.
