Categories of Members
There are four categories of membership of the Chancery Bar Association. These are full membership, overseas membership, academic membership and honorary membership.
Full Membership
This is open to barristers who are self-employed or employed, whose practices consist mainly of Chancery work, and beginner tenants in chambers who aspire to such a practice and are likely to develop one. The ChBA's activities are tailored to their needs and interests.
Full membership allows the member to
- attend all lectures and seminars;
- attend the Annual Conference (subject to an reasonable charge);
- be included in the ChBA's directory of members;
- access all the member's pages, including the library and directory, on the website
- receive the ChBA's informative weekly newsletter; and
- participate in other events and parties organised by the ChBA for its members.
Membership of the ChBA can be a valuable marketing tool, particularly for those in non-specialist chambers.
Overseas Membership
This is open to those lawyers who practise exclusively overseas and who specialise in Chancery work. Membership in this category is subject to nomination by a full member and then at the discretion of the Committee and by invitation. Overseas members have the same benefits as full members except for voting rights. Such membership usually lasts for 3 years but may be renewed on the same basis.

Academic members have the same benefits as full members except for voting rights and are often invited to speak at the Association’s seminars and conferences.
