Chancery work in the UK Courts

Since 2nd October 2017, the Chancery Division, the Commercial Court and the Technology and Construction Court have together been called the “Business and Property Courts of England and Wales”.

The Business and Property Courts now act as a single umbrella for the specialist civil courts across England and Wales. In London, the specialist jurisdictions operate together at the Rolls Building. There are also Business and Property Courts in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and Cardiff. The new arrangements are intended to enhance the connection between the specialist Business and Property work undertaken in the regions and in London.

The practices and procedures of the separate specialist courts will be preserved, whilst allowing for more flexible deployment of judges with suitable expertise and experience to sit on appropriate business and property cases.  The intention is to ensure that Britain continues to provide the best court-based business dispute resolution service in the world, served by a top-class independent judiciary.
