Manage Your Working Relationship With Your Clerk

Barristers and their staff spend many hours at work.  The work is often demanding and pressured and can be isolating. There can be a heavy weight of responsibility involved, particularly for junior barristers who are only just entering the profession and may very quickly have sole conduct of cases which have significant ramifications for their clients.  This makes chambers an important setting to ensure best practice in maintaining health and wellbeing.

The focus of the Chancery Bar Association and Institute of Barristers Clerks on health and wellbeing aims to improve the way that barristers and their staff manage their working relationships and consequently improve their health and productivity.

On Wednesday 4 October 2017 the Chancery Bar Assocation will launch the Best Practice Policy which has been put together by the ChBA and the Institute of Barristers Clerks.

The event will be chaired by Charlotte May QC and the speakers will be:

Nicholas Hill - Chairman, IBC and senior clerk at 3 New Square

William East – Barrister and member of the Junior Chancery Bar

Rachel Spearing – Barrister and Co-founder of Wellbeing at the Bar Programme

David Goddard – Senior clerk at 4 Stone Buildings.

This event will be followed by a drinks reception and is open to everyone but we would, in particular, encourage the more junior members of the ChBA to attend, together with clerks and members of chambers staff.  It is also open to members of COMBAR and TECBAR.

Learning objective:  To explore best practice in maintaining health and wellbeing at work.
Learning rationale:  To enable participants to understand the ChBA/IBC best practice policy and how to implement it.
